Skipton Crematorium

Skipton Crematorium

Skipton Crematorium, inaugurated on 11 June 1952, stands as a serene facility conducting over 1,000 cremations annually. Located in the heart of Waltonwrays Cemetery in the Craven area, the former unconsecrated chapel has been repurposed as the Crematorium Chapel.

The chapel, centrally located on Carleton Road, Skipton, BD23 3BT, provides various services, including burials, vaults, and memorial ceremonies. Ample car parking is available in front of the remembrance chapel, supplemented by overflow parking on Carleton Road.

For those delving into historical research, the crematorium maintains comprehensive records dating back to 1952, detailing all cremations and the final resting places of ashes interred or scattered in Waltonwrays Cemetery.

The chapel houses significant elements such as the Book of Remembrance, Walton Gallery, tree of Life, book of Condolence, and a memorial tree during Christmas. It features a waiting room and public toilets, including facilities for disabled access and baby changing.

Fully accessible, the chapel accommodates up to 64 guests with additional standing room and outside speakers. Equipped with an induction loop system for the hard of hearing, the chapel includes two large screens for displaying photo tributes. Various options are available, from a single photo display to a professional photo tribute synchronised with music chosen by the deceased. Family videos are also permitted.

Skipton Crematorium offers an extensive online music database featuring a diverse selection of music, hymns, and an organ. The organ can be paired with service books for congregation participation.

Each service at the chapel is allotted 40 minutes, encompassing ten minutes for entry and exit. Services run from 9:10 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday, with Saturday availability upon request. The crematorium also provides webcasting services and offers access to recorded services for up to 28 days. Families can opt for a lasting memory through a provided DVD.
