Mountsett Crematorium

Mountsett Crematorium

Nestled in the outskirts of Dipton in Durham, Mountsett Crematorium, inaugurated in 1966, stands as a serene haven overlooking verdant valleys and picturesque villages. Enveloped by woodlands and diverse flora and fauna, this tranquil crematorium provides families with multiple options to commemorate their loved ones.

The crematorium allows families to witness the interment of cremated remains within its grounds or in dedicated plots in the memorial garden. For those wishing to retain ashes or scatter them at another location, funeral directors provide cremated remains in a scatter tube.

Mountsett Crematorium features a well-lit and intimate chapel at its entrance, accommodating up to 120 people with additional standing space. The chapel is equipped with modern amenities, including a digital music system, large screens for photo or video tributes, and webcasting and recording services. An organ is available for funeral music, and an induction loop system aids those with hearing difficulties.

Families can immortalise their loved ones with entries in the Book of Remembrance, displayed in a dedicated building. Adjacent to this, an area for floral tributes allows friends and family to leave flowers, while the Wall of Remembrance showcases large Caithness Stone plaques. Memorial seats with personalised plaques are also available in and around the memorial gardens.

With parking for up to 55 cars, including disabled parking, Mountsett Crematorium is open on weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm, while the chapel and Book of Remembrance Building welcome visitors every day of the year.
