West Road Crematorium

This crematorium boasts two interconnected chapels, united by an arcaded cloister known as the Loggia, creating a serene space for farewells. The West Chapel, accommodating around 180 mourners, and the East Chapel, seating approximately 165, both exude traditional charm and have been meticulously refurbished to the highest standards. Each chapel is equipped with an organ, CD and cassette player, wheelchair accessibility, and an induction loop system for inclusivity.

After cremation, families have choices for the final disposition of cremated remains, including collection by the funeral director, scattering in the Garden of Remembrance, or burial in family or cremation plots. Specifically designed small plots are available at designated cemeteries.

The Garden of Remembrance behind the cloisters serves as a serene resting place for scattered remains. The Snowdrop Garden, adjacent to the babies' burial garden, provides a poignant space for remembrance of children, stillborn babies, and lost pregnancies. While no cremated remains are strewn in the Snowdrop Garden, authorised plaques from Newcastle City Council serve as heartfelt memorials. Visitors are kindly asked not to walk on the lawn or place tributes directly, with vases available for use but shared among visitors due to the significant number of cremations each year. This crematorium and its gardens stand as spaces of tranquillity, honouring the departed with dignity and respect.
