Thornton Crematorium
Opened in 1963 to serve bereaved families in the local area, Thornton Garden of Rest Crematorium in Merseyside showcases a unique 60s-style design. The crematorium, located on Lydiate Lane in Thornton near Crosby, features a chapel with a seating capacity for up to 80 guests and is equipped with a hearing loop system for those with hearing impairments. Additional facilities include Book of Remembrance rooms and a waiting area. Families have the option to play funeral music using the crematorium's CD system or make use of the provided Hammond organ at no extra cost.
Cremated remains can be interred in the memorial garden, or a dedicated cremated remains grave. Families also have the choice to take the cremated remains for private scattering or interment. Ample car parking, including disabled parking, is available at the rear of the crematorium. The grounds are open year-round until 8:30 pm from April to August and until 7 pm from September to March. The crematorium offices operate from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 12:30 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm, with Book of Remembrance accessibility during weekdays and limited hours on weekends and holidays.
