Barrow Crematorium

Barrow Crematorium

The Barrow or Thorncliffe crematorium, originally opened in 1962, underwent a significant refurbishment in 2016, which modernized the chapel and integrated the cemetery office and staff. Services are conducted on weekdays within 45-minute slots, allowing a maximum of 30 minutes per service and 15 minutes for entry, exit, and preparation for the next family. Additional time can be requested in advance at no extra charge.

Services can be led by a minister or a person chosen by the family, following a format of their preference. It's important to note that there's no legal requirement for a formal service; some families prefer to remember their loved ones privately.

The crematorium accepts original CDs and can accommodate choirs, musicians, and singers. After the service, families can choose to close or leave the curtains open as the congregation departs.

Cremation occurs on the same day as the service, taking approximately three hours, after which families can arrange to collect the cremated remains.

Flower arrangements left at the crematorium are displayed for at least one week, depending on weather conditions, in the flower bay outside the exit. Flowers intended for donation to the crematorium are used to decorate the chapel.

Please remember: you need to book an appointment at the Barrow/Thorncliffe Crematorium in order to discuss your plans. We’d be happy to help you do this, so feel free to get in touch with one of our personal advisers.
