West Herts Crematorium
Since its establishment in 1959, West Herts Crematorium has been dedicated to creating a comforting and peaceful environment for visitors. Diligent gardeners take pride in maintaining the beautiful gardens, with spring and summer plantings enhancing the tranquil space.
West Herts Crematorium provides a choice of two beautifully appointed chapels for funeral or memorial services, accommodating both religious and non-religious ceremonies. The décor within these chapels is thoughtfully designed to offer a soothing environment, allowing friends and family to gather and honour the life of their loved one. The surroundings outside the chapels are thoughtfully landscaped, providing a serene space for quiet contemplation and remembrance.
The North Chapel, built in 1959, is the larger of the two, capable of seating up to 130 individuals. It features a balcony that maintains a comfortable atmosphere for a larger number of guests. The centrepiece of the chapel is the stone catafalque, surrounded by seasonal plants that create stunning floral displays.
The South Chapel, added in 1977, is perfect for more intimate gatherings, accommodating up to 50 people. Its cherry wood ceiling and pews create an ambiance of warmth and dignity. Skilled organists can play classical music or accompany hymns, along with your selected music from our extensive digital library. Both chapels are equipped with induction loop systems to assist those with hearing difficulties.

By car:
You can access the crematorium by turning off the A405 (St Albans Road). There is a sign posted on both sides of the dual carriage way. The nearest motorway is Junction 6 on the M1 and Junction 21a on the M25. Follow the signs for the A405 Watford. On turning into High Elms Lane, you’ll see the gates opposite the school. There is parking for 125 cars.
By rail or bus:
The nearest train station is Watford Junction. From there you can take a taxi or the no 321 St Albans bus for St Michael’s school. The bus stops on the main road, two minutes from the gates.
