Downs Crematorium
The Downs Crematorium, established in 1941 on the grounds of Brighton and Preston Cemetery, is located in a residential area near the heart of Brighton. Dedicated to providing support for funeral services, the compassionate and devoted staff at the crematorium treat every family with dignity and respect, offering assistance at every step of the process.
With two Chapels available, the crematorium accommodates both large and intimate funerals. Demonstrating a commitment to local families, The Downs provides a generous service time of 45 minutes, surpassing the duration offered by many other crematoria. The facility ensures accessibility for individuals with disabilities, equipped with disabled toilets and a hearing loop, and is adaptable to diverse cultural and religious needs.
The tranquil Gardens of Remembrance, featuring personalised memorials such as roses and private gardens, provide a serene space for reflection. On clear days, the gardens offer breathtaking views of the sea.
Access to the grounds is facilitated through two entrances, with the Bear Road entrance being the closest to the Crematorium and the chapel where funeral services are held. Additionally, access to the cemetery is available via the entrance on Hartington Road.

From Falmer:
To reach The Downs Crematorium in Brighton from Falmer, start by heading southwest on N - S Rd, then turn right onto University Way, followed by a left onto Stony Mere Way. Continue on this route for approximately 1.1 miles until you reach Lewes Rd/A270. Merge onto Lewes Rd/A270 and continue for about 1.7 miles. Proceed onto Coombe Rd, and after approximately 0.5 miles, turn right onto Bear Rd. Drive for 2 minutes, and you will see the crematorium entrance.
From Hove:
Head east on The Drive/B2185 and continue for 0.2 miles. Take B2120 to Chatham Pl/B2122, a journey that will take approximately 5 minutes covering 1.1 miles. Continue on B2120 and B2122 until you reach A270. Turn onto A270 and drive for 7 minutes, covering 1.2 miles, until you reach Bear Rd. Take a slight right onto Bear Rd and continue for 0.5 miles. After 2 minutes, you will arrive at The Downs Crematorium’s Bear Road entrance.
